MODEL UNITED NATIONS
Peninsula Catholic High School has a large and active Model United Nations Team representing two to three countries and non-governmental organizations each year at a variety of conferences. Students research, discuss and debate issues concerning international hunger, world disarmament, use of peace-keeping forces, women's rights, children in poverty, HIV/AIDS impact on the world and many other current issues. Taking part in this conference encourages students to use their analytical and problem solving skills, and helps them gain a better understanding of world events. Through interaction with hundreds of students from other high schools throughout the country, our students become familiar with global issues and problems. Meetings to prepare for conference participation are held during lunch and homeroom once per week to avoid conflict with the students other extra-curricular activities. Students are expected to complete research and resolution preparation outside of regular school hours with the assistance of a team of highly qualified coaches. Members are required to help defray the cost of conference participation, usually about $150.00, with a series of fund raising activities available to team members. Countries represented include:
