Interact
is Rotary International’s service club for young people ages 14 - 18.
Interact clubs are sponsored by individual Rotary Clubs, which provide
support and guidance. However, Interact clubs are self-governing and
self-supporting. The Peninsula Catholic High School Interact Club was
chartered on August 1, 2005 and is sponsored by the Rotary Club of the
Virginia Peninsula. The PCHS Interact Club will work as an active partner
with, and be involved in, Peninsula Rotary’s projects.
Each year the Interact Club will complete at least two community service
projects, one of which furthers international understanding and goodwill.
Through projects, Interactors develop a network of friendships with local
and overseas clubs, in the process, Interactors gain leadership skills,
learn the value of hard work and volunteerism and obtain an understanding of
Rotary and its guiding principles of the 4-way Test.
The PCHS Interact Club has already raised $1,000 to contribute to the
Peninsula Rotary Club’s project in Costa Rica. This project involves making
major improvements to The Carmen Lyra rural school in Alajuelita, Costa
Rica. They have also partnered with Peninsula Rotarians to help ring the
bell for the Salvation Army at Christmas. Interactors participate in Rotary
Youth Leadership and often go on to become Rotary Youth Exchange students or
Rotary Ambassadorial Scholars.
As one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary
service, with 200,000 youth in more than 8,700 clubs in some 110
countries, Interact has become a worldwide phenomenon. The PCHS Interact
Club provides exciting and meaningful projects for its members and
perpetuates Rotary’s mission. |
