About Athletics at PCHS Peninsula Catholic offers a comprehensive program of interscholastic athletic activities which provides opportunities for students of all abilities and experience levels to participate. In striving to integrate participation in sports with the total development of the student, the athletic program is an extension of the values and philosophies of the school as a whole. Along with the physical and instructional components of being a team member, great emphasis is placed on fostering good sportsmanship, teamwork and commitment. The primary athletic affiliations of the school include the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools and the Virginia Catholic League; some teams extend their schedule to include competition with public school and championships at the State Independent level as appropriate. Peninsula Catholic fields teams in the following interscholastic sports:
Requirements: 1. Must have successfully completed a physical examination for current school year. 2. Must have mandatory school insurance (cost of school insurance is included in books/fees). 3. Maintain the minimum academic standards established by the school. 4. Agree to meet practice and game schedules. The number of participants allowed on a team will vary by sport, but every attempt is made to accommodate those who wish to join a particular team. Cuts are made only in situations where (a) the athlete is not prepared for the level of competition to which he or she aspires, or (b) the number of athletes exceeds the coach's capacity to provide a rewarding experience for everyone who wishes to play. Tryouts will take place at the beginning of each season, with allowances being made for those students who, due to circumstances, are not able to be present during initial tryouts (provided that there is still room on the roster). |
